Conduct disorder is a class of behavioral and emotional problems that usually occurs in children and teenagers.
Children and teenagers with the disorder have a difficult time following rules and behaving in a socially acceptable way. They may display aggressive, destructive, and deceitful behaviors that can violate the rights of others. Others may consider them to be “bad” or delinquent, as opposed to having a mental illness.
It is not abnormal for children to display behavior-related problems at some time or the other during their development. However, conduct disorder is considered when it is long-lasting and when it violates the rights of others or goes against accepted norms and disrupts the child’s or their family’s day to day life.
If a child has conduct disorder, they may appear tough and assertive; When in reality they are often insecure and believe that people are being aggressive or threatening toward them.
